We are learning about sound and how it is made. We have discovered that a sound is a vibration that travels through the air from one place to another. We hear the sound when the vibration reaches our ears.
We wanted to create something that could show us what a vibration looks like so we made kazoos. You only need an empty toilet roll, wax paper and a rubber band.
Here is a video link for you to look at if you want to make one too.
How to make a kazoo
We experimented with tissue paper, foil, normal paper, etc. to see if we could improve the sound. Our conclusion: we liked the sound the wax paper made best. It didn't let the air through like the tissue paper and it wasn't too thick either. The sound did drive our parents a bit crazy because we some of us just couldn't stop playing these kazoos.
