ASB Getwise
Last week Marlon came to teach us about money. We have learnt that we need to make careful choices when we buy items. It is important to look for good buys and to keep an eye open for a special deal. We spoke about 'magic' money and the different cards we get i.e. credit cards, eftpos cards and debit cards. We earned our four ribbons so we all received a wrist band. Thank you for teaching us, Marlon. It was fun having you as a teacher.
More Acorns
There are 12 acorns on the classroom floor. These acorns make up a quarter (¼) of all the acorns that fell out of Walter’s acorn bag. How many acorns fell out altogether?
We used these steps to help us give the problem a go. We used different resources to help us.
Maths with acorns
We have had so many acorns in and around the school grounds that they just couldn't be ignored. They became the ideal resource for maths.
First, we had to estimate how many acorns were collected by Walter.
Then we had to count them all. The students agreed that counting in tens would be a good way to get through the pile so every child took 10 acorns at a time.
Lastly, we had to count the groups of ten...290, 300, 310, 320!
Yes, we counted 320 acorns!
