Calendar Art

Under the Sea

In Room 14 we have been creating art with coloured paper. The first step was to create a background resembling water. This we created with paper in three shades of blue. The background paper was cut into wave patterns and when the other two blues were woven through, it created a water-like effect.
After that we had to sketch the main characters. Some students chose to sketch a dolphin or a fish. Have a look at the photos to see what other creatures you can identify.
The most difficult part was to create all the creatures, rock and coral out of coloured paper, even creating the lines, eyes and fins out of contrasting paper. The pieces fitted together like puzzle pieces.

Here they are:

We learnt that being
resilient when we are creating an art picture helps us to create something special.

Some of the pictures were created while working with others, helping each other to create that special item.

Creating the pictures were really difficult and meant that we had to be resourceful, thinking, trying, changing and re-thinking until we were satisfied with our efforts.

Everyone had to be reflective throughout the process. When reflecting on the stages of the pictures, it became clear when a change was needed or when another rock or coral had to be added to make the final picture just perfect.
